The BBC Olympic idents highlight eight selected events, consisting of hurdling, pommel, long jump, beam gymnastics, hammer throwing, pole vault, taekwondo and sprinting. Shot at Sutton Arena by BBC Directors Alex Freeman and Jacqui Farnham, the athletes were filmed using the Phantom Flex high speed camera and lenses from Love High Speed. The footage demonstrates the intricate steps required to execute these sports in slow motion, accompanied by the BBC 2012 Olympics theme tune. ONSIGHT project managed the camera elements and supplied 3ality Technica Quasar rigs, working with DoP Ed Wild. Chris Parks was also on set as Stereographer.
The offline was completed at ONSIGHT’s post production facility, using their OS 3D plug in. The ONSIGHT team continued with the online stages, involving depth and colour grading as well as audio post production. Vision3 provided stereo supervision of the project.
The BBC 3D Olympic idents can be seen on the BBC HD channel, during the lead up to key events, and during the Closing Ceremony on August 12th.
