3D more popular in China and Europe than America says report
Display market research specialists NPD DisplaySearch have just published research that indicates 3D TV is proving to be more popular outside of America.
According to the Q4’11 NPD DisplaySearch Quarterly TV Design and Features Report, consumers in China and Western Europe are embracing 3D television more enthusiastically than North Americans who prefer 'inexpensive sets with fewer features'.
”We were surprised to find that 3D appears to be a far more popular feature in China than North America, and the penetration rate was two times higher in the last quarter,” said Paul Gray, Director of TV Electronics Research, NPD DisplaySearch. “Our report also indicates that North American and Japanese 3D penetration is lower than the Middle East.”
Interestingly, 3D movies has proven to be more popular in Europe than America during 2011. When analysing the ratios of people who chose the 2D or 3D version of movies that offered a choice, the percentage of Europeans who chose the 3D option was considerably higher than their American friends. The reasons for this could make for an interesting report in itself!
The 250 page report also examines connected TVs, LED, OLED, frame rate conversions and more for each region around the world. For more information about the report click here.
