Today, LG Electronics have announced a new 3D laptop for the small but growing market – the LG A530 3D
Following on from the company’s LG Optimus 3D smartphone, the company is pushing the laptop's ability to create 3D content (video and photos) rather than just display 3D content like most other 3D laptops. Like the Fujitsu Lifebook AH572 released earlier this year, the 15.6 inch Full HD LG A530 3D laptop features dual front facing cameras.
Although dual integrated webcams on a laptop do not lend themselves very well to creative 3D video and photography production, a natural use would be 3D video conferencing. Similar to the LG Optimus 3D smartphone, the LG A530 3D laptop makes it easy to instantly upload 3D content to the YouTube 3D platform. It can also be connected to other LG 3D TVs and the Optimus 3D for stereoscopic playback on other LG devices.
“With 3D becoming ever more popular, the logical next step is to let users make their own 3D content and watch it on a top-quality 3D screen. And that’s just what our new A530 does,” said J.J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics PC Business Unit. “LG is already a leader in the ever-growing world of 3D technology. With the LG A530’s wide range of line-ups including 3D HD in addition to 3D Full HD, LG is already leading the 3D notebook market.”
LG 3D Laptop Uses Film Patterned Retarder Technology
LG have incorporated the same passive 3D technology into the LG A530 3D laptop as its Cinema 3D TV range. Called Film Patterned Retarder (FPR), a polarising film is placed over the screen. Each other line is polarised the opposite way so the user wearing the passive glasses receives a different image to each eye.
Although the resolution is not as sharp as a shutter/active glasses system (like NVIDIAs), the image is brighter and flicker free. A pair of glasses and a pair of clip-ons for prescription glasses wearers are included.
Other features of the LG A5303D laptop include a SRS Wide 3D Sound system, generation Intel® Core™ i7 processor with up to 8GB memory and NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M graphics. LG will be rolling out the premium LG A530 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa this month followed by other markets soon after.
Toshiba have recently announced the Qosmio F750 3D - a glasses free 3D laptop with 'face-tracking' and 'Active Lens' technology to reduce the 'sweet spot' restrictions of autostereoscopic displays.
