Nearly every body feels a bit of a pleb wearing 3D 'goggles' so Cineworld have started selling 'aviator' style 3D polarised glasses complete with a rigid carrying case. Not only are they designed to be more stylish, because they are reusable, they are more hygienic.
For spectacle wearers, Cineworld have also launched 'clip-on' 3D lenses. These attach to the bridge of regular glasses which solves the problems of wearing one pair of glasses over another. The trial will take place in the following Cineworld cinema sites – Crawley, Didsbury, Glasgow Renfrew, Milton Keynes, Sheffield and Wandsworth.
The price of the glasses is £13 for the aviators and £4 for the clip-ons.
For big cinema fans this might be a worthwhile purchase, especially for those who are holders of monthly passes. It will certainly be interesting to read the results of the trial out later this year. There was a discussion at the 3D Forum 2010 in May of a 'designer 3D glasses industry' emerging – could this be the start?
