During a demo of Dimenco and Dolby’s glasses free 3D displays, James Cameron expressed a desire to continue with 3D.
During IBC, the Avatar director, who’s company CPG is looking towards China for growth, said “I now feel motivated again to continue with 3D”, and “There is room for improvement but this already good enough for the consumer market, you guys are the first to blow out the door”.
He was referring to a 56-inch Dimenco glasses free 3D solution. The Dutch autostereoscopic display specialist has licensed Dolby 3D image processing for its new ultra-HD (4K) 3D panels.
Dolby 3D is a holistic 3D HD format and suite of technologies designed to deliver full HD 3D content to 3D-enabled devices not just glasses-free displays.
In July Cameron admitted he misjudged the demand for 3D TV but once glasses free 3D technology advances we can expect to “see an avalanche of 3D production".
